WE ARE MERGING
Rodyk
& Davidson and HelenYeo & Partners two well-known names in
the Singapore legal profession will merge.
The
merger takes effect on 1
November 2002, under the
name Rodyk & Davidson. Helen Yeo will be Managing Partner of the
merged firm.
With
this merger of equals, the merged firm vaults into Singapore’s 6
largest law firms. Rodyk has 48 lawyers and HY&P, 46 lawyers
and 4 PRC law graduates. The merged firm will have more than 90
lawyers and 180 staff.
Rodyk,
established in 1861, is Singapore’s oldest law firm. HY&P is
the youngest firm in the top largest law firms, having only turned
10 in July 2002.
HY&P
has a diverse clientele of banks, local listed corporations,
government-linked companies, large property developers, insurers
and healthcare providers. HY&P’s core practices are banking
and finance, corporate, regional transactions, commercial
litigation, international arbitration, construction litigation,
insolvency and debt restructuring, medical defence, insurance and
real estate transactions for developers.
In
pursuit of HY&P’s ambition in 1992 to be a regional firm, HY&P
built Indo-China and China practices. In 1997, HY&P was the
first Singaporean firm to open a licensed branch office in
Shanghai, and recently re-located to Ocean Towers, Shanghai.
Rodyk
has a strong reputation in the international arena. It is
associated with nearly 70 offices globally through its
representation in the World Law Group and the Pacific Rim Advisory
Council. Apart from a solid Singaporean clientele, it has a strong
network of foreign companies and foreign law firms. Rodyk’s core
practices are litigation, intellectual property/information
technology, corporate and real estate. In addition Rodyk has
aviation and shipping practices.
The
merged firm will be located on 33rd, 32nd and 16th Floors of UOB
Plaza Tower 1.
HY&P’s
joint law venture with Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP will
change its name to Orrick Rodyk & Davidson.
